which of the following
expressions is correct and which is wrong?x
أي من التعبيرات التالية صحيحة وأيهم خاطئ ؟

x1)a letter of thanks / a message of thanks

x2) thanks letter / thanks message
x3) letter for thanking / message for thanking
x4) thanking letter / thanking message

Only the first is correct. It's the only correct phrase. The others are not idiomatic. x

Although the others are formed logically, using familiar English grammar patterns, they just are not part of language.x

Another way -- and the most usuual way to say what you want to say is this:x

· a thank-you letter
or
·a thank-you note

العبارة الأولى هي الصحيحة فقط. العبارات الأخرى ليست إصطلاحية (ليست دارجة) على الرغم من أن العبارات الأخرى ذات تراكيب منطقية وذات قوالب نحوية إنجليزية مألوفة وهناك طريقة أخرى للتعبير عن رسالة الشكر وهي مألوفة أكثر وهي أن تقول:

· a thank-you letter
or
a thank-you note

ملاحظة : Note
For me , I think No.2 may be correct too as the
first name ( thanks ) works as an adjective to

the second name ( letter/ message).

But No. 3 and 4 are not acceptable to me although I can not give correct explanation

في وجة نظري العبارة الثانية صحيحة أيضاً لأن الكلمة الأولى thanks تصف الكلمة الثانية message/letter ... ولكن العبارات الثالثة والرابعة غير مقبولة على الرغم من أنني لا أستطيع إعطاء شرح وافي عن سبب عدم صحتها

We might invent 'thank message' or 'thanks message' very wisely, but this expression is just not used. x

By custom, 'letter of thanks' and 'thank-you note' are common.

As for C) and D), these constructions might be used with other words, but not for the expression we are discussing.x

ويمكننا بطريقة صحيحة أن نأتي بعبارة message thank أو thanks message ولكن هاتين العبارتين ليست مستخدمه وعلى ماجرت عليه العادة (استخداماً) فإن letter of thanks و thank-you note شائعة الإستخدام. وبالنسبة للعبارتين C - D فإن تركيبها قد تكون مستخدمه مع كلمات أخرى ولكن ليست مع العبارات التي نناقشها . فالعبارات التي ذكرتها تعتبر هي المستخدمة بغض النظر عن منطق تركيب العبارات الأخرى
